Courtney has a general corporate and commercial law practice with a focus on commercial transactions, corporate governance and pension and benefits matters.
Courtney has experience in a wide range of matters in commercial transactions, including secured lending transactions, corporate finance, asset and share purchase transactions and corporate reorganizations.
Courtney routinely assists with pension and benefits matters, including Board governance and trust agreement matters. This includes advising clients on matters of legal compliance and investment matters, as well as drafting trust agreement documents and governance policies. Courtney also has experience assisting on employment matters, such as drafting and reviewing employment and termination agreements, and workplace policies. Courtney has advised clients on employment law compliance and has assisted in guiding clients through employee termination processes.
Her experience includes: providing governance and succession advice, reviewing, negotiating and advising on investment funds and investment management agreements for pension and benefit plans, and advising on the conversion of health and welfare trusts to employee life and health trusts or, in some cases, to an inter vivos trust, and acting for pension funds and employee benefit funds in the collection of contributions from participating employers.
Courtney articled with the firm before joining as an Associate in 2022. During law school, Courtney was Vice President Academic for the Law Student’s Association, Executive Director of Law Show, and a member of the Pandas Bearristers Rugby Team and the 2021 Graduation Committee. During her undergrad, Courtney was an athlete on the Pandas Volleyball Varsity team at the University of Alberta from 2013-2017.
