Brian has a highly diversified international finance practice and regularly advises financial institutions, including Korean ECAs, sponsors, investment advisers, investment banks, airlines, including major Korean carriers, and companies in financings in various contexts, including project finance, aircraft finance, real estate finance, structured finance, derivatives and restructuring. 

He has significant experience in representing clients on the financing and development of complex, large-scale power, oil and gas, EV, mining and other infrastructure projects as well as extensive experience in securitization and M&A transactions.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advised the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-SURE), ANZ and other international commercial banks in relation to the USD940m term loan green facility for Hyundai Mobis in connection with the development of EV parts plants in Alabama and Georgia.
  • Advised The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM), Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and international commercial banks in the development of a high voltage direct current subsea transmission system in the UAE issued by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, and developed by Korea Electric Power Corporation, Kyushu Electric Power Co. and EDF.
  • Advised K-SURE and a consortium of international commercial banks including BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole, Citibank and JPMorgan Chase in connection with the financing of the first phase of the Sal de Oro lithium brine project, located in the provinces of Catamarca and Salta in Argentina. The project received “TXF Perfect 10 Latin America Deal of the Year” honors at TXF Global 2023 Export, Agency and Project Finance.
  • Advised KEXIM, K-SURE, Euler Hermes, BNPP and other international commercial banks in relation to the USD2bn financing for SK On Hungary. The project received “TXF Perfect 10 Europe Deal of the Year” honors at TXF Global 2023 Export, Agency and Project Finance.
  • Advised Korean Air Lines in the US EXIM supported financing of four Boeing 737-8 aircraft involving various financial institutions including ING Capital and The Toronto-Dominion Bank.
  • Advised K-SURE, ANZ and a consortium of international commercial banks in relation to the USD711m term loan facility for the Hyundai Mobis and LG Energy Solution JV in connection with the development of an EV Battery Manufacturing Project in Karawang, Indonesia. The project received “TXF Perfect 10 Asia Deal of the Year” honors at TXF Global 2023 Export, Agency and Project Finance and “Project Finance Deal of the Year” at 2023 ALB Korea Law Awards.
  • Represented K-SURE, ANZ and other international commercial banks in connection with a K-SURE-backed USD745m 7-year term loan facility for LG Display Vietnam Haiphong Co., Ltd.
  • Advised the lenders (including KEXIM and K-SURE) in connection with the financing and development of the Jawa 9+10 IPP in Indonesia.
  • Advised the ECA lenders (EDC, Euler Hermes, KfW IPEX Bank, KEXIM, JBIC, NEXI, CEXIM and CDB) in connection with the project financing of the Quebrada Blanca 2 mining project in Chile.
  • Advised a large global group of ECAs including KEXIM and K-SURE on the RAPID Refinery / Petrochemical Project in Malaysia. The project received “Project Finance Deal of the Year 2020” honors at the IFLR Asia-Pacific Awards as well as “Asia-Pacific Petrochemical Deal of the Year” honors from both PFI and IJ Global.
  • Advised SoftBank Ventures Asia (fka Softbank Ventures Korea) in connection with its investment in IYUNO Asia Pte Ltd.
