DLA Piper advises Greencoat Renewables on second wind farm in Ersträsk, Sweden

DLA Piper has advised Greencoat Renewables PLC, through a multi-jurisdictional team from the UK, Sweden and Germany, on the acquisition of the under-construction 134.4 MW Ersträsk North Wind Farm in Sweden. This deal follows Greencoat Renewables PLC’s first acquisition in Sweden of the operational Ersträsk South Wind Farm in October 2021 which DLA Piper also advised on. This project expands Greencoat’s operating presence in the Nordics and brings Greencoat’s overall capacity on this site alone to 235 MW.

The project will consist of 32 Enercon E-138 EP3 E2 turbines and is expected to be fully commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2023. Enercon will continue to provide long term operations and maintenance services. Ersträsk North forms part of a large emerging cluster of renewable generation in the Markbygden area, with a potential installed capacity of 4GW.

DLA Piper advised on all aspects of the due diligence, acquisition and project agreements. The team was led by Global Co-Chair, Energy and Natural Resources Sector and Greencoat Client Relationship partner, Natasha Luther-Jones, alongside partners Björn Sjöberg (Sweden) and Rubayet Choudhury (UK) and Senior Associate, Jacques Camilleri (UK). They were assisted by Robert Hofbauer (Counsel, Germany) and Tim Hagberg (Senior Associate, Sweden).

Natasha Luther-Jones, commented: “Following working with the Greencoat team on the acquisition of the first Ersträsk deal, we are delighted to have supported Greencoat Renewables PLC in consolidating their presence in Sweden and in the Nordics more generally showing that we can provide a first class service to our clients wherever they chose to do business.”
