David Church was, from 1998, heavily involved in the international development of the firm particularly in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the International/USA merger which created the global entity in January 2005. He served as International Development Partner and as CEO DLA Piper Africa until the end of 2020 and is now a Consultant to the firm.

David was based in Dubai from January 2006, concentrating on office openings in the Middle East and development in India and Africa. He relocated to the London office from the Middle East in July 2010 since when he has been working on the development of DLA Piper's Africa practice and particularly DLA Piper Africa which has offices in 20 countries across the continent providing an outstanding national and regional offering integrated with DLA Piper globally.

David graduated in Law from University College London and qualified as an English solicitor in 1975. He practised in the UK and Brussels, principally as a commercial and regulatory lawyer, until 1998 when he joined DLA Piper and opened the firm's first office in Continental Europe (in Brussels).
