• Advising East West Railway Company Ltd – a wholly owned body of the Department for Transport – on the preparation of a development consent order application for a new circa GBP2 billion railway line between Oxford, Bedford and Cambridge, including on stakeholder engagement strategy and developing effective and robust public consultation approaches.
  • Acting for the Department for Transport with respect to airport capacity enhancement and UK airspace modernization including: formulation of national policy under the Planning Act 2008; environmental and habitats assessment obligations; and freedom of information compliance.
  • Advising High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd on the construction of the circa GBP 75 billion (2015 prices) Phase One of the route between London and Birmingham, including various statutory planning appeals to the appropriate ministers, compulsory purchase compensation obligations and the exercise of statutory powers for the temporary use of land.
  • Advising Ineos Group on the successful promotion of a development consent order (granted 2017) for a circa GBP1 billion underground gas storage facility including significant associated on-shore linear infrastructure and connections; major emphasis on agreeing timely and effective statements of common ground with key consultees.
  • Advising Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd on the planning and drafting of a bespoke decommissioning framework for life-expired power generation facility and Magnox Ltd on effective decommissioning strategy including engagement with key government and consultee stakeholders, community benefit provision and scope for positive regulatory change.
  • Advising Mersey Gateway Crossings Board Ltd – a subsidiary of Halton Borough Council – on all aspects of the implementation and operation of road charging and tolling arrangements for the Mersey Gateway Bridge under the applicable Transport and Works Act Orders and the Transport Act 2000, including matters relating to public law administrative obligations and local authority governance.
  • Advising a leading UK university regarding redevelopment of its estate, including the negotiation of complex bespoke section 106 planning obligations in connection with the 2019 sale of a strategic urban site for mixed use regeneration valued at GBP18 million.
  • various landowners, developers and lenders on strategies to reduce Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) liabilities and successfully resisting CIL enforcement action.
