About

Ignacio Sanchez represents national and international clients on a broad range of issues before the Executive branch, Congress and the courts. He advises clients on the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies to protect the clients' interests and achieve its desired objective before the US government.

For over 30 years, Ignacio has been involved in regulatory and legislative matters related to US national security law and policy, whether it be navigating the CFIUS process, advising clients on the application of US economic sanctions, export controls and anti-boycott laws or advising clients on the legal and political issues related to these matters. In this regard, he has represented clients on these issues before the Congress, Treasury Department, Department of Justice, State Department, US Trade Representative, National Security Council, White House Counsel, National Economic Council, Department of Commerce, Department of Energy and various inter-agency task forces.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advised numerous foreign governments on implementing government affairs strategies in Washington DC before the Congress, the White House and the Executive branch agencies on policy, legislation, appropriations and any issues impacting the bilateral relationship
  • Advise clients on the development and implementation of domestic and world-wide corporate compliance programs
  • Represent numerous foreign and domestic entities in obtaining regulatory approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) for international transactions involving the acquisition of companies or assets in the US
  • Advise numerous global clients on sanctions compliance, voluntary disclosures and enforcement proceedings before US agencies with applicable jurisdiction
  • Advise many commercial clients on legislation and regulatory matters affecting their business interests
  • Represent numerous clients in commercial disputes including but not limited to trademark litigation, environmental and toxic tort litigation, franchise disputes, product liability, RICO and breach of contract cases

Due to Ignacio's experience on national security related matters, he has been called on to render testimony at Congressional hearings before the: 

  • International Economic Policy and Trade subcommittee of the US House of Representative's International Relations Committee concerning US sanctions' policy and disputes relative to those policies before the World Trade Organization
  • Western Hemisphere subcommittee of the US Senate's Foreign Relations Committee concerning the extraterritorial reach of US sanctions
  • Trade subcommittee of the US House of Representative's Ways and Means Committee on the Legal and Economic Relationship between the United States and Cuba
  • Courts and Intellectual Property subcommittee of the US House of Representative's Judiciary Committee on issues related to government confiscations

He has also been a commentator for CNN, BBC, PBS, Canal NBC, Telemundo, and ECO on numerous matters including international trade issues and was featured in The American Lawyer (January 2000 Ed.) in the cover article titled "Rum Warriors." 

Mr. Sanchez also served as a speaking surrogate on Spanish language media for the Bush-Cheney presidential campaigns in 2000 and 2004 and for the Romney presidential campaign in 2008 and 2012.

Presidential Appointments

Pursuant to an appointment by President George W. Bush, Ignacio served (2005 – 2011) as a member of the board of trustees of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the living national memorial to President Wilson. The Center, headquartered in Washington, DC, was established by Congress in 1968.

Ignacio served on the 2000 Bush-Cheney Transition Team as the director of the policy advisory committees for the Department of the Treasury and for the Office of the US Trade Representative.
