DLA Piper’s Corporate Venture Capital practice assists corporations in managing and accelerating innovation.

Our corporate venture capital lawyers, part of DLA Piper’s market-leading emerging growth and venture capital practice, have deep experience working with corporate investors (including corporation and corporate venture funds) to help develop and execute their venture capital strategies. This advice ranges from structuring the corporation’s venture operations to assisting in individual investment transactions. And our CVC group provides guidance after the investment in startups to maximize strategic alignment with such companies and manage any legal and business issues that arise across their CVC portfolio.

We are active in global markets on behalf of our clients every day and routinely execute a large volume of complex venture transactions, many of which involve short deadlines and draw on the experience of our lawyers in other legal fields, such as tax, intellectual property licensing, patents, CFIUS, employment, financial regulatory and data privacy. Our deep experience gained from closing more than 700 venture and debt financings annually, coupled with our local presence on the ground in more than 40 countries, allows us to provide efficient, cost-effective service regardless of the size or location of the deal. We also advise on other innovation strategies, such as establishing and running incubators and innovation competitions.

As part of our CVC practice, we have developed a suite of training programs tailored to the in-house legal and business team members who are tasked with implementing corporate venture strategies. We developed these courses to assist corporate investors in understanding issues ranging from the venture capital process, corporate venture capital structures, and term sheets as well as best practices for corporate investors acting as directors and board observers. The training program for board members and board observers has been attended by more than 20 CVC groups. We actively participate in CVC conferences and have regular webinars for CVC investors.
