THOMAS HICKS, DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF THE NAVY FOR ENERGY, TO SPEAK AT DLA PIPER GLOBAL ENERGY SUMMIT

POLITICS AND NEW ENERGY – THE END OF STIMULUS, AND THE IMPACTS OF THE NEW NATURAL GAS AND TIGHT OIL

DLA Piper invites you to our inaugural Global Energy Summit to be held December 6–7 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. Throughout the day-and-a-half program, panels of distinguished energy leaders will address issues such as the factors affecting domestic and international energy markets, financing alternatives for energy projects and cutting-edge energy technologies.

The opening plenary session will offer an exciting look at the intersection of innovation and politics, as Senator George J. Mitchell, DLA Piper’s Chairman Emeritus, former US Envoy to the Middle East and contributor to the successful 1990 reauthorization of the Clean Air Act, sits down with Dave McCurdy, President of the American Gas Association, to offer their thoughts on a recorded presentation from businessman George P. Mitchell, the "father of fracking," addressing the economic effects and political state of play for energy in 2013 and beyond.

The program continues with three 90-minute sessions featuring representatives from the Obama Administration’s Energy Sector, a former chief technology officer from Halliburton, academics and industry stakeholders, who will tackle an array of critical topics. The panelists will discuss issues such as the Presidential election; the "new" natural gas – applied technology, distributed use, generation and markets; and sustainable aviation fuel, to name a few.

We will cap our evening with special guest Tom Hicks, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy, who will discuss the impacts of national and international security arising from the advent of the "new" natural gas and "tight" oil, as well as the military’s efforts to utilize renewable energy, including biofuels.

Day two will include panels that will discuss international financing of energy, the euro, BRIC markets and Asia and renewable energy and the new natural gas – effects on energy storage, state and federal renewable energy standards and more.

We look forward to sharing this dynamic program with you. Review our full agenda.
