DLA Piper is one of the most active law firms for M&A, private equity and venture capital deal volume and was the only firm to rank in the top five of each category in PitchBook's 2017 global league tables report.
With 469 M&A deals in 2017, DLA Piper ranked first globally in PitchBook's list of most active M&A law firms. This marks an increase from 373 deals in 2016.
Specific to private equity, the firm ranked second globally with 236 deals, compared to 176 deals in 2016, and second in the US, with 119 US-based private equity deals, compared to 94 in 2016. DLA Piper also ranked second in leveraged buyouts, moving up from third place in 2016. The firm was recognized in the top five of several industry sector rankings within private equity, including:

- #2 in IT
- #2 in financial services
- #5 in healthcare
The firm ranked fourth in PitchBook's list of most active venture capital firms with 388 deals, up from 268 in 2016. Of those deals, 332 were based in the US. DLA Piper was recognized in the top five for its venture capital work in the following industry sectors:

- #3 in healthcare services & systems
- #4 in healthcare devices & supplies
- #4 in IT hardware
- #4 in software
