Adam Tope joins DLA Piper's Finance practice in New York

DLA Piper announced today that Adam Tope has joined the firm's Finance practice as a partner in the New York office.

Tope is a nationally recognized fund formation attorney representing leading private equity, infrastructure, venture capital, real estate and hedge fund sponsors in the formation of investment funds, managed accounts and co-investment vehicles. Tope has also been a key part of some of the most significant secondaries transactions in the funds space, having completed numerous GP-led restructurings, tender offers, stapled secondaries and sales of pooled interests for over 10 years. 

In addition to his sponsor-side work, Tope represents institutional investors, high-net-worth individuals and sovereign wealth funds in real estate investments, joint ventures, private equity investments, hedge fund investments, venture capital investments, co-investments and secondary transactions. He also has extensive experience representing investment managers on Investment Company Act issues, Investment Advisers Act issues, including SEC audits, and compliance with securities offerings.

Tope is the second New York fund formation partner to join the firm in recent months, following the addition of John Reiss. The Finance practice has also recently welcomed partners Seth Bonneau in Boston, Jasmine Zacharias in Miami, Evelyn Kim in San Francisco and Mary Dunbar in Washington, DC.

"Adam has significant experience working with the largest players in the secondaries industry and is a leader in the formation of crypto funds and funds targeting blockchain investments. This varied skillset will be an tremendous asset to the firm and our clients," said David Goldstein, co-chair of the firm's Investment Funds practice. "He will be a key contributor as we continue to grow our fund formation capabilities across the country."

Tope joins from Hogan Lovells, where he was the former head of New York fund formation and the New York funds regulatory practice and co-head of the US secondaries practice. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center and his B.S. from Cornell University.
