DLA Piper adds David Horniak as partner in the firm’s Litigation practice

DLA Piper is growing its Litigation practice with the addition of David Horniak as a partner in the firm’s Washington, DC office.

Horniak has extensive experience litigating complex, high-stakes civil and criminal cases at both the trial and appellate levels. He has successfully represented clients in a broad range of litigation areas, with a particular emphasis on intellectual property litigation, consumer class action defense, litigation and investigations brought by federal and state criminal, securities, and tax authorities, and legal malpractice defense.

Horniak represents a variety of clients – from individuals and startups to Fortune 500 corporations. He has prosecuted and defended patent infringement actions, defended food manufacturers in class actions brought under consumer protection laws, and defended lawsuits and investigations brought by the Internal Revenue Service, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the US Department of Justice and state attorneys general. His experience includes prosecuting a branded pharmaceutical company’s patent infringement claims in federal multi-district litigation, defending a fast-food franchise in California consumer class-action lawsuits and arbitrations alleging false advertising, and prosecuting through trial a public company’s claims that the District of Columbia breached a government contract for the provision of technology.

“David is a highly accomplished trial litigator, having litigated both civil and criminal cases for a broad range of clients. With his diverse experience, David will be able to serve our clients in areas from consumer products and computer technology to IP and patent litigation,” said Loren Brown, DLA Piper’s US vice chairman and chair of the firm’s US Disputes Practice.

“I am honored to be joining DLA Piper,” Horniak added. “It’s a deeply talented firm with unmatched global reach, and I am looking forward to using my knowledge and extensive experience to help DLA Piper’s clients solve their most pressing problems.”
