Alex Cates balances her practice between federal and state employment law litigation and corporate counseling.

She has broad experience defending employers in wage and hour class actions, private attorney general representative actions, wrongful termination and employment discrimination claims, state and federal whistleblowing, and other employment-related litigation.  She has represented clients in employment-related cases before the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the California Labor Commissioner, the Oregon Bureau of Labor & Industries, the Washington Department of Labor & Industries, and state and federal courts.

She has experience in all areas of the litigation process, including factual investigation and development, offensive and defensive discovery, depositions, witness preparation, mediation, trial, and negotiations.

In addition to her litigation experience, Alex provides extensive advice and counselling to her clients on all employment-related issues, including wage and hour issues, harassment and discrimination allegations, state and federal leave laws, ADA accommodations, internal investigations, and employment handbooks and policies.  Alex also conducts employer training on various topics, including state harassment law, state non-compete requirements, and state-mandated parental leave.

Alex’s clients range from multibillion-dollar publicly traded companies to local and regional employers.
