John Grady concentrates his practice on the investment management industry. He works with investment companies (including mutual funds, ETFs and interval funds), commodity pools, private funds, real estate investment trusts and business development companies, among other pooled vehicles. He also counsels investment advisers, broker-dealers, transfer agents and commodity pool operators on a range of issues, from fund formation to mergers and acquisitions involving these highly regulated firms.

With 30 years of investment management experience, John provides advice to various SEC-registered fund companies, including several ETF complexes, interval funds, open-end funds and UCITS. He has overseen securities offerings by funds and other investment vehicles, and led the development and operation of various new investment products and services. John has helped carry out numerous fund "adoptions" and reorganizations, and has overseen M&A transactions involving investment advisers, broker-dealers and investment funds. His experience ranges from structuring and negotiating such transactions to handling shareholder and regulatory approvals as well as associated governance, financial, public relations and integration issues.

Immediately prior to joining DLA Piper, John was Senior Vice President and Chief Regulatory Officer of Aretec Corporation, the parent company of Cetera Financial Group, one of the nation's largest independent financial adviser networks. John helped the company form or acquire numerous regulated entities, including investment company complexes, investment advisers and FINRA member firms.

John has served many professional associations during the course of his career. He is Immediate Past President of the Alternative & Direct Investment Securities Association, a member of its Executive Committee, as well as the Chair of its Conference Planning Committee.
