Stephanie Peatman is a trial lawyer who represents companies faced with complex disputes, ranging from mass tort to commercial litigation. Stephanie is one of the youngest lawyers serving on a national product liability trial team for a Fortune 100 company.  She has handled multiple civil jury trials through to defense verdict, and represents clients in high stakes settlement negotiations, arbitrations and mediations. 

In addition to her trial work, Stephanie manages large dockets of mass tort cases, leads national medical-legal committees and acts as local counsel in state and federal courts for her clients. She frequently presents on a broad spectrum of issues impacting her clients. She is also seasoned in employment litigation and investigation matters, including wrongful termination, ADA violations, sexual harassment claims, as well as medical malpractice and administrative law hearings before the Medical Board of California.

EXPERIENCE

Representative Experience:

  • Trial lawyer in respirator product liability action, resulting in favorable resolution during plaintiffs’ case-in-chief.  (2019)
  • Trial lawyer in four-week product liability trial where the plaintiff claimed his terminal cancer was caused by defective respirators, resulting in unanimous jury verdict in client’s favor. (2018)
  • Trial team in Jones Act maritime case, resulting in successful jury verdict. (2017)
  • Co-trial counsel in medical malpractice case representing physician, resulting in jury verdict in client’s favor. (November 2015)

Pro Bono

Community Involvement and Pro Bono:

  • Served as pro bono counsel to reproductive health nonprofit to successfully defend against meritless qui tam action and successfully obtained summary judgment on all causes of action
  • Served as pro bono counsel to respirator manufacturer to stop the counterfeit sale of N95 respirators during the COVID-19 pandemic and successfully obtained temporary restraining orders prohibiting the sale of fraudulent respirators and obtaining preliminary injunctions and ultimately disgorgement of ill-gotten proceeds from pandemic profiteering

Prior Experience

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Stephanie was an Senior Managing Associate with multi-national law firm, Dentons. Prior to Dentons, Stephanie was an associate at Bonne, Bridges, Mueller, O'Keefe & Nichols. During law school, Stephanie served as a corporate in-house extern for Halston and a federal judicial extern in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She was also the recipient of the National Association of Women Lawyers "Outstanding Law Student" Award in 2014.
