Colin Steele is an experienced litigator with a focus on intellectual property matters involving copyright, trademark, trade dress, false advertising, and trade secret misappropriation claims, as well as complex commercial disputes and international arbitration.  He has represented clients across a broad array of industries, including technology, entertainment, insurance, energy, and online services.  Colin has an active trial practice as both plaintiff and defense counsel, and has experience with all stages of litigation, including prominent roles in numerous trials and arbitrations.

TM / Copyright Litigation

  • GOLO LLC v. Goli Nutrition Inc. (D. Del.) - representing Goli Nutrition in trademark infringement and false advertising litigation.*
  • Buff City Soap et al v. Bynum et al (N.D. Miss.) - representing Buff City Soap in trademark and trade dress infringement litigation.
  • Alibaba Group Holding Limited v. Alibabacoin Foundation et al (S.D.N.Y.) - obtained temporary restraining order and subsequent injunction prohibiting company from using "Alibaba" in name of cryptocurrency.*
  • Keck v. Alibaba.com Inc. (N.D. Cal.) - achieved voluntary dismissal by plaintiff of copyright infringement claims asserted against Alipay US, Inc. following filing of motion to dismiss.*
  • Fox News Network, LLC v. TVEyes, Inc. (S.D.N.Y. / 2nd Circuit) - represented TVEyes, an online media-monitoring service, in a copyright and “hot news” misappropriation dispute implicating significant fair use issues.*

Media / General Litigation

  • Secured arbitral award, subsequently confirmed by the New York Supreme Court, for Liberty Theatres, Inc. enjoining the producers of the show STOMP from moving the show to another theater.*
  • Shanklin et al v. Wilhelmina et al (N.Y. Sup. Ct.) - represented putative class of fashion models bringing suit against several major fashion agencies alleging that those agencies mischaracterized them as independent contractors.  Secured class certification and defeated agencies’ motions for summary judgment.*
