About

Emma Stockman has been a lawyer at DLA Piper since 2020, providing advice and assistance (litigious and non-litigious) with regard to intellectual property and media law, commercial law and IT law.

Emma is involved in a range of projects, national and international, and helps public entities as well as private sector clients find their way in complex legal landscapes. Prior to starting at DLA Piper, she obtained her master of laws at the KU Leuven and an LL.M in Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary University of London. Emma also completed a legal internship at the IP department of a renowned fashion house in London.

Emma is experienced in assisting companies with all kinds of legal aspects of contracts, advising on the prevention of commercial disputes and assisting in commercial litigation, reviewing general terms and conditions to identify pitfalls and risk elements, as well as drafting, reviewing and negotiating intellectual property and technology contracts.

Emma is also particularly experienced in providing in-depth advice regarding the legal provisions on audiovisual media services and advertising.

EXPERIENCE

  • Led an international project in over 50 jurisdictions for a global automotive company regarding the legality of the use of dash cams.
  • Drafted and negotiated a cooperation agreement for a leading Belgian company active in the market of infrastructure, buildings, industry, distribution networks and energy production regarding the joint development with a technology company of a new technology unit, with focus on the intellectual property of the project results and the licensing arrangement for the commercialization of the project results.
  • Drafted and negotiated a SaaS agreement for a bank in view of a core banking renewal project.
  • Advised various companies regarding their advertising strategies in light of the changing legal framework at EU level and at Belgian level.
