DLA Piper’s Latin America Women’s Mentoring Program brings together Latin-American women lawyers in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Puerto Rico, Portugal and Spain. Since the program launched in July 2019, more than 100 women have participated, including more than 35 mentors and 65 mentees. We are not only committed to promoting the retention, advancement and empowerment of women lawyers but to bringing a cross-border element to the program, connecting women within specific practice areas across different countries.
These match-ups enable conversations to take place in a safe and productive space, all while enhancing integration and understanding across borders. The program incorporates a strategic combination of independently scheduled one-on-one mentor/mentee calls and guided group discussions on topics of professional development. Regularly scheduled meetings enable the participants to overcome shared challenges as a team. By building a strong sense of support across borders, we not only provide guidance but create and share action plans for internal and external networking, professional development and work-life balance.
DLA Piper’s overall Latin America strategy is to be a world-class leading law firm offering a one-stop solution to multinational companies doing business throughout the region. We want to seamlessly deliver quality legal services via diverse teams that look like our clients. Our mentoring program introduces our women associates to international standards and best-in-class processes which they can then apply in their respective countries, meeting clients’ expectations and setting us apart from our competitors in the region, who do not have the benefit of this type of professional network.
DLA Piper’s global core values remind us how important it is to promote diversity and inclusion as well as gender equality across our global platform. These values reflect the diversity of clients, communities and markets where we work. As we prepare for the future, we are aiming to expand our support of our women lawyers in their respective roles to ensure they are seen as trusted advisors and leaders in the legal community.
