Daniel W. Lee is the Country Managing Partner and is licensed as a foreign legal consultant in Korea. He is also the Head of Korea Practice - Asia Pacific at DLA Piper's Tokyo office. Voted as one of the "Top 100 lawyers in Korea" by the Asia Business Law Journal in 2018 and 2021, Daniel has more than 35 years of experience at major law firms in Los Angeles, Honolulu, Tokyo and Seoul.

Daniel started his legal career as a litigator in Los Angeles specializing in civil litigation. Later, after many years of court room experience, he transitioned to a transaction practice at a major law firm in Los Angeles. Widely known in the Korean corporate legal community as an attorney who can advise on a transaction based on his litigation experience, Daniel's practice covers a wide-range of complex cross-border mergers and acquisitions, international joint ventures and foreign direct investments in addition to international arbitration. Daniel has a significant IT, FCPA, compliance and forensics experience stemming from his 8 year experience as the General Counsel/Vice President of IBM Korea. His noteworthy legal record includes his role as the lead counsel for the Korea's largest automobile manufacture and many of its suppliers to establish automobile assembly plants in the US and Brazil, among many other greenfield projects in foreign jurisdictions. Recently, Daniel was the key member of the US arbitration team which brought a major victory for a leading Korean E&C company in an AAA arbitration in the US.

Daniel is recognized as an "Eminent Practitioner" for Dispute Resolution in the Chambers Asia Pacific 2018, 2019, 2020,2021 and 2022 Rankings. In 2014, Chambers Asia recognized Daniel as Band 1 leading individual in Corporate/M&A: International Firms. He is the recipient of the "Asian Counsel Deal of the Year 2009" award for eBay's M&A in Korea. Under Daniel's management, DLA Piper Seoul Office was awarded as the winner of "Foreign Law Firm of the Year" and "Overseas Practice Law Firm of the Year" by Asian Legal Business Korea Law Awards 2014 sponsored by Thomson Reuters.

Daniel is the founder of the In-house Counsel Forum ("IHCF") in Korea, serving as its first President from 1998 to 2002 which has amassed over 1,800 in-house counsel members since its establishment. He is also the founder of the Foreign Law Firm Association in Korea and served as its first President from 2014 to 2016.
