Seven DLA Piper lawyers named to Variety's 2021 Legal Impact Report

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that seven of its lawyers have named to Variety’s 2021 Legal Impact Report highlighting the top attorneys in the entertainment business.

Los Angeles-based lawyers Tom Ara, co-chair of the Entertainment Transactions and Entertainment Finance practices; David Markman, co-chair of the Entertainment Transactions practice; Robert Sherman, co-chair of the Entertainment Finance practice; partner Afshin Beyzaee; of counsel Scott Bradford; and associate Katherine Imp were recognized as a team in this year’s report. Los Angeles-based associate Jason Lueddeke was named to the publication’s list of “Up Next” attorneys in the entertainment space.

The publication noted the team’s role in securing more than US$1 billion in debt financing for independent music company Concord, as well as its representation of talent agency APA in its major non-equity financial investment from the Yucaipa Companies. Variety also highlighted DLA Piper’s representation of Open Road Films as a domestic theatrical distributor with funding from Raven Capital Management and CJ Entertainment in its agreement with Fox Television to launch the US version of Korean music competition show “I Can See Your Voice.”

Lueddeke was recognized for his representation of Spyglass Media Group in litigation brought by film and TV producer Marvin Peart that arose from Spyglass’s acquisition of the Weinstein Company’s assets in bankruptcy. The publication also noted Lueddeke’s representation of songwriter and producer Philip Lawrence in litigation brought by attorney Mickey Shapiro related to Lawrence’s music publishing catalog.
