DLA Piper announces recipients of Global Partner Pro Bono and Community Service, Jeffrey F. Liss awards

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Janet Legrand, a partner in the Litigation practice with a history of leadership at the firm and in the legal community, has received the Jeffrey F. Liss Award, which was established as a tribute to the firm's former US managing partner. At the same time, Richard Klawiter, a partner in the Chicago office with a longtime dedication to community service, has received the firm's Global Partner Pro Bono and Community Service Award.

Legrand, who previously served as senior partner and chairman of the board of DLA Piper, is an experienced international dispute resolution partner who was recently appointed Honorary Queen's Counsel, a title awarded to lawyers and legal academics who have made a major contribution to the law of England and Wales outside practice in the courts. She was honored with the Jeffrey F. Liss Award in recognition of her leadership, her notable record of success over decades of experience, and her commitment to public service. The award recognizes DLA Piper partners worldwide who embody the beliefs and qualities for which Liss, who passed away in 2007, was well known and commemorates his numerous contributions to the firm, the legal community and society.

Klawiter, vice chair of DLA Piper's Real Estate practice, was recognized for pro bono work throughout the course of his career. Over the past three years, he has devoted more than 650 hours to pro bono work, spanning the areas of immigrant and refugee rights, juvenile justice and legal services to the poor, and service to nonprofit organizations with real estate needs. Klawiter is also a member of DLA Piper's North American Pro Bono Committee and chair of the Chicago pro bono committee, and he serves on the firm's Global Scholarship Program Board, a scholarship program open to top students studying law in the 50 least developed countries.
