DLA Piper announced today that Alex Steinberg has rejoined the firm's Corporate practice and Media, Sport and Entertainment sector.
As of counsel in the New York office, Steinberg's practice encompasses media, corporate and finance matters, including all aspects of content licensing and distribution, sports and media-related corporate acquisitions, and financing transactions.
He joins from the National Football League, where he was responsible for a broad range of media-related transactional and strategic matters across broadcast and cable television, digital and social media and connected devices and technology. In this role, Steinberg served as the legal point of contact in connection with the NFL's content licensing business and partnerships with emerging and social media platforms, the distribution of NFL Network and NFL RedZone programming services and the NFL's international media business. Steinberg also advised the NFL business team on commercial aspects of the NFL's Next Gen Stats initiatives, as well as other League data licensing.
Prior to joining the National Football League, Steinberg was an associate at DLA Piper, where he provided counsel to programming networks and other rights holders across a full spectrum of legal and strategic business matters, including domestic and international affiliation agreements (both with traditional distributors and "over the top" distributors), content distribution and licensing, and distribution via emerging technologies. In addition, Steinberg has represented buyers, sellers and sports franchises in the National Football League, National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer and European football leagues. Along with representing clients in strategic transactional matters, he advised on a wide range of general business law matters.
"We are excited to have Alex back at the firm," said Peter White, global co-chair of DLA Piper's Media, Sport and Entertainment sector. "His experience with the NFL Media group significantly adds to our capabilities to provide cutting-edge advice to our clients in the media sector."
Steinberg received his J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and his B.B.A. in international business and sports management from the George Washington University.
