It begins here

values
We are, at our core, bold, exceptional, collaborative and supportive.

Just as we focus on innovation by developing new practice areas to keep pace with today’s expanding business landscape, just as we embrace innovative solutions to client issues, so too do we seek innovation in all of our employees. We are encouraged to adopt a forward-thinking approach to our contributions in the workplace, our relationships with each other and our commitment to our communities and environment. We want to work with individuals who embrace and embody the same attitudes towards our values.

Grow with us

DLA Piper (Canada) LLP provides a challenging work environment with appropriate remuneration for contributions made to the firm. We acknowledge that staff have many considerations beyond their work:  family well-being, education and training, fitness, volunteer work  and community involvement. We are open to discussing flexible work arrangements so that our people can successfully manage the rewards and the demands of everyday life while still meeting our clients’ needs.

Benefits

Our compensation and benefits packages are competitive. We aim to attract and retain high-quality individuals by ensuring they receive appropriate recognition for their qualifications and contributions. We participate in annual salary surveys with other firms to ensure our approach to compensation coincides with that in the market.

Our overall goal is to provide opportunities equal to or better than those offered by selected firms in the marketplace.

Ideal Candidates

We want our employees to feel positive and enthusiastic about their day-to-day contributions and those of their co-workers. We embrace a “get-the-job-done-right” attitude across the firm and celebrate our achievements as a team.

Individuals seeking employment with DLA Piper (Canada) LLP should embody the same desire for success. They should have demonstrated knowledge of their area of expertise through education and experience, as well as a natural ability to work both independently and as a team player with a diverse group of people, and they should excel in an often fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

We particularly appreciate those who approach tasks with innovation and resourcefulness while adhering to the rules and regulations inherent to the practice of law. We support new ideas that improve efficiency and effectiveness.

We give consideration to all candidates, including internal and external applicants, and make offers to individuals with the best mix of training, experience and initiative, as well as a demonstrated eagerness to make positive contributions.

Diversity and Inclusion

As a global law firm with offices across Canada serving the needs of clients from around the world, DLA Piper (Canada) LLP recognizes that embracing a culture of diversity is instrumental to our success. We have a long, rich history and profound commitment to creating an inclusive workplace that values, respects and supports the different perspectives, cultures and experiences of our clients and our people.

Diversity Statement

DLA Piper (Canada) LLP is committed to creating an inclusive workplace that values, respects and supports the different perspectives, cultures and experiences of our clients and our people. We believe that by doing so, we will attract the best lawyers, students and support staff who will be inspired to realize their full potential, significantly enhancing our ability to deliver creative and strategic advice to our clients.

We treat all of our employees with dignity and respect regardless of race, gender, culture, ethnic origin, colour, creed, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, family status, disability or health status. Everyone has equal opportunity with respect to compensation, promotion, transfers, benefits, and all other conditions of employment.  We are committed to supporting and implementing internal and external diversity initiatives that will enable our firm to stay abreast of best practices in the workplace.

That’s why our firm supports and has signed on to be a member of the Law Firm Diversity and Inclusion Network (LFDIN), a group of Canadian Law Firms who have agreed to work together to promote diversity and encourage a culture of inclusion in our firms and the broader legal profession.

Cultivating Community

Family Law
The firm believes in giving back. We embrace charitable initiatives throughout the year and support our employees who become involved in events that help our shared communities thrive. We provide inter-office opportunities to raise funds and awareness for a cross-section of organizations dedicated to helping others. In some cases, we launch friendly competitions between offices to help meet or even exceed fundraising goals. These include a cross-Canada food drive for local food banks and local United Way campaigns.

We strive to be an influence to younger generations by providing practicums to high school and college students to introduce them to the corporate environment, and we encourage our lawyers to volunteer time and expertise to pro bono matters.

Making an impact

Testimonials

"I love my job and everything about DLA Piper. The firm promotes work-life balance and I have been lucky enough to experience lots of professional growth within my career here. I do not consider this place as “work” but more as a “family” environment. I started working here in 2003. After leaving briefly I am happy to be back!"

—Sheena Bong, Project Manager

"I look forward to coming to my job every day. Working at DLA Piper is so innovative, educational and motivating. I work with colleagues who are respectful of each other and who share the same drive to deliver outstanding services to our clients day in and day out. I can't think of a better place to work. Employees are continually appreciated for the hard work they do and are given the flexibility for a work-life balance which provides us with more time with our families outside of work."
