Four DLA Piper (Canada) LLP partners recognized in the 2022 Lexpert®/ALM 500 Directory‎

DLA Piper (Canada) LLP is pleased to announce that the 2022 Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada has recognized Howard Krupat (Construction), Alan Macek (Intellectual Property), Bruce Stratton (Intellectual Property) and Kevin Wright (Competition) as leaders in their field.

The annual Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada is based upon the year's Survey results, which are also used for The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory. The guide comprises an exclusive group of lawyers ranked highest in practice areas of importance to an American audience and who are acknowledged as leaders in their respective fields, lawyers prominent in their practice areas and professional organizations, and lawyers otherwise enjoying significant recognition from their colleagues.

Howard Krupat leads the Canadian firm’s construction law practice and has extensive experience as counsel on complex construction disputes. Howard is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers and a former Chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s Construction and Infrastructure Section Executive. He is also Chair of the Allied Professions Committee of the Toronto Construction Association. Howard has served as an appointed member of the Advisory Panel for the Province of Ontario’s Construction Lien Act Review. He regularly speaks at conferences on construction law, in addition to devoting a substantial amount of time to industry and professional associations.

Alan Macek has a well-regarded intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution practice, with a focus on electrical and computer-related technology. He has litigated cases in the Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court and the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta and his experience in litigation often involves cross-border proceedings. Alan is frequently invited to speak on intellectual property topics including issues for emerging technology such as blockchain/cryptocurrencies and AI/machine learning.

Bruce Stratton has immense experience in patent, trade-mark and copyright litigation with a particular emphasis on patent disputes concerning computer-related technology. Bruce has been counsel in the Supreme Court of Canada in cases that have resolved fundamental issues of patent and trade-mark law. Author of the Annotated Patent Act, Bruce is frequently invited to speak and write on diverse topics in IP law. He is the lead instructor for graduate courses offered by Osgoode Hall Law School and by the University of Toronto.

Kevin Wright is an experienced competition law and class action defence lawyer, who covers all ‎aspects of competition law and has been lead counsel in the defence of over 30 class actions across ‎the country. He has been an active member of the Canadian Bar Association’s Competition Law ‎and Foreign Investment Review Section ‎throughout his career and currently serves as the Chair of its International Committee. Kevin ‎has spoken on competition law and class actions to ‎professional ‎and business audiences on various occasions and for over ten years has taught competition law as an adjunct professor at the University of British ‎Columbia’s Allard School of ‎Law.‎
