January 1, 2019 marked significant changes to California legislation. Among them are new sexual harassment training requirements, rules addressing the number of females serving on public company boards, and legislation concerning confidential settlement agreements.

RECENT EVENTS
May: On May 1, we hosted the eighth installment of our Doing Business Globally series in collaboration with PwC Israel with a breakfast discussion focused on the legal and tax issues that arise when investing in Russia. This exclusive event was geared towards companies and investors that are already doing business in Russia or are considering doing so, and featured Leo Batalov, Global Co-Head of our Emerging Growth and Venture Capital practice.

April: On April 3, the Israel Country Group hosted its seventh annual Israel Real Estate Summit at the Royal Beach Hotel in Tel Aviv. Over 200 people attended the summit, including leading real estate investors from abroad and local developers and dealmakers, such as Migdal Insurance, Amitim, Psagot Investment House, Harbor Group International, Harel Insurance, Clal Insurance, Azrieli Group, and Bank Leumi. April: On April 1, the Israel Group hosted an intimate luncheon for our friends in Israeli law firm management. Simon Levine, the firm’s Global Co-CEO, discussed the hype around innovation in the legal industry and the need for law firms to adapt in a fast-changing world. The event was attended by over 40 people from Israel’s most prominent local law firms. Learn more.

March: DLA Piper was a proud sponsor of the Israel Dealmakers Summit 2019 that took place on March 27 in Silicon Valley. One of the largest Israel-related business events, the summit is attended by more than 1,000 global corporations, investors, dealmakers, and entrepreneurs from the United States, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Israel. March: DLA Piper was proud to be a sponsor of the 2019 OurCrowd Global Investor Summit. The Israel team collectively moderated eight “Meet the Startups” sessions throughout the day, covering presentations by over 40 companies. Each session focused on a specific ecosystem or sector, including enterprise software, mobility, cybersecurity and fintech, platform-as-a-service, agtech, energy and cannabis, and medtech. February: DLA Piper was once again a sponsor of the annual Axis Tel Aviv event that provides a platform for Israel’s leading startups and international corporate investors to pitch to each other, network, and actively support business and investment opportunities. Jeremy Lustman, Head of the Israel Group, participated in a panel entitled “Reinventing Agriculture,” in which various agritech startups pitched their companies. Learn more.

February: Patrick Van Eecke, Partner and Global Co-Chair of DLA Piper’s privacy, data protection and security practice, together with Enrique Gallego Capdevila and Anne-Gabrielle Haie from our Brussels office, led a training workshop on how to respond to data breaches occurring in or impacting people in the EU. The session was attended by IT, legal and compliance professionals of Israeli companies who are responsible for dealing with and managing cyber-incident processes. Learn more.

This exclusive event was geared towards companies and investors that are already doing business in Poland or are considering doing so, and featured Jacek Giziński, Krzysztof Kycia, and Marta Frąckowiak, partners in our Warsaw office. We were privileged to be joined by Ambassador Marek Magierowski, Polish Ambassador to Israel, and Elroy Knebel, President of the Council of the Polish-Israeli Chamber of Commerce, as well.
