Briar advises developers on renewable energy projects in the Asia Pacific region. She has obtained valuable in-house renewables experience through her previous position as legal counsel at Iberdrola Australia and also by undertaking a virtual secondment at Vena Energy. Briar has also undertaken an overseas secondment in DLA Piper’s London and Leeds offices with a focus on renewable energy projects.

Briar has a particular interest in giving back to her community through pro bono legal work and forms part of DLA Piper’s Sustainability and ESG Special Interest Group.

EXPERIENCE

Wind

  • on the development of wind farms located in Australia including:
    • Reviewing and negotiating a range of contracts, including project documentation, early works agreements, consultancy agreements and minor works agreements.*
    • Preparing and negotiating term sheets and development agreements in relation to prospective developments.
    • Reviewing and negotiating agreements for grid connection*
  • on an offshore wind farm project located in South Asia – drafting and negotiating project documents, including the early works agreement, EPC contract, O&M contract and ancillary documents.*

Solar

  • a developer on the EPC contract, O&M contract and coordination contract for a solar farm project located in Vietnam.*

Batteries

  • on a BESS project located in Australia – drafting and negotiating a term sheet regarding the prospective development. Investigating the proposed land and preparing a property due diligence report regarding the same.*
Power Purchase Agreements (PPA)
  • a publicly listed Australian company on sourcing the equivalent of 100% of its electricity needs from a solar farm. Drafting and negotiating the PPA, including the ISDA master agreement, schedule and confirmations.*
