DLA Piper partner Edward "Smitty" Smith named a Law360 Telecommunications MVP

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that partner Edward “Smitty” Smith, who also serves as deputy managing partner of the firm’s Washington, DC office, has been named a 2020 Law360 Telecommunications MVP. Law360 selected just 189 attorneys from more than 900 submissions for its annual list of MVPs, highlighting those who “have distinguished themselves from their peers by securing hard-earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals.”

The publication highlighted Smith’s work helping T-Mobile design and implement programs and products that “help close the digital divide for low-income customers” and provide free wireless hotspots and access to tablets and laptops to at-risk students. He also worked with T-Mobile and civil rights organizations to develop agreements that detail T-Mobile’s commitment to support diversity and inclusion following its now-approved merger with Sprint and led settlement negotiations with state attorneys general who challenged the merger.

Smith focuses his practice on telecommunications matters, and he advises clients on the full range of issues in the wireless and satellite sectors, including spectrum policy, auctions, regulatory actions, equipment approvals, rulemakings and enforcement.
