Billy Tang is a commercial litigation lawyer, with a focus on financial services disputes with cross-border elements.

Billy regularly acts for banking and financial institutions and multinational corporations across a broad range of sectors including energy, insurance, life sciences, logistics and transportation and technology in proceedings at all levels of courts as well as in international and domestic arbitrations. Billy has also advised clients on regulatory and compliance matters.

  • Acted for major banks in recovering substantial outstanding indebtedness owing by various companies and individuals by way of litigation and debt restructuring including cross-border enforcement of judgments and arbitral awards.
  • Advised liquidators and receivers on loan restructuring exercise and asset recovery projects with multi-jurisdictional elements.
  • Advised a founding shareholder of a technology company in a shareholder oppression dispute in Australia.
  • Acted for an investment fund in an HKIAC arbitration in relation to breach of a joint venture agreement.
  • Defended a Malaysian manufacturer in a contractual dispute with an Australian distributor regarding alleged conspiracy, breach of restraints and exclusivity provisions and defective product claims.
  • Advised financial services clients on contractual disputes including rendering legal opinion on interpretation of contractual provisions and litigation risks.
  • Advised on contractual interpretation and settlement of disputes related to network services and development services agreements for various energy projects.
  • Advised a logistics and transportation client on the compliance perspective in respect of various agreements concerning rules of regulatory bodies.
  • Advised clients from the regulatory perspective in respect of potential liability issues arising from regulations by the authorities.
  • Acted for an insurance company in relation to liability and claim issues arising out of a large scale offshore accident in Europe.
