François Tremblay has a diversified legal practice, focusing primarily on commercial and corporate law, but also covering matters of privacy, data protection, business integrity and compliance, and international economic sanctions and trade controls.
François acts for Canadian and international clients in the context of mergers, acquisitions, and financing matters. He also supports clients in the negotiation and drafting of commercial agreements and leases, and by providing advice on matters of regulatory compliance. He also advises clients on matters of public procurement.
François has developed a specialized expertise in matters of business integrity, compliance, and corporate governance. He has assisted clients in reviewing, updating and drafting integrity compliance programs as well as in conducting internal investigations. He has had the opportunity to participate in internal investigations for important mandates which led him to travel to Africa, the Middle East, and Japan. He has also advised Canadian public and private sector clients on matters of business integrity.
In addition to commercial and corporate matters, an important part of François’ practice revolves around matters of privacy and data protection law. He has developed a specialized expertise in these matters, which allows him to support Canadian, American and international clients to ensure that their business activities are compliant with Québec’s privacy regime, generally considered to be the most complex and stringent of its kind in Canada.
François also has a keen interest in matters of international trade and economic sanctions. As part of his sanctions practice, he regularly advises local and international clients on complex matters involving the Special Economic Measures Act and export controls to assist them in understanding their obligations under these complex regulatory regimes in order to devise effective, practical risk mitigation strategies.
François has also represented clients in matters of civil and commercial litigation at all levels of court in the province of Quebec.
In addition to French and English, François is fluent in Japanese, which has allowed him to act on several internal investigation mandates involving large Japanese multi-nationals.
