DLA Piper partners Peter White, Mark Whitaker and Richard Rubano named to Sports Business Journal's Power Players: Outside Counsel list
DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Peter White, global co-chair of the firm’s Media, Sport and Entertainment sector, partner Mark Whitaker and partner Richard Rubano have been named to Sports Business Journal’s Power Players: Outside Counsel list, which recognizes the firms and lawyers handling the most notable sports business transactions.
DLA Piper was also named a “Gold” firm for sports law, a category recognizing firms that “represent many high-profile clients and have made an impact with their representation and the diverse work they perform.” The publication noted DLA Piper’s recent representation of Ted Segal in his purchase of a majority stake in the Houston Dynamo and Dash, as well as AS Roma in the sale of its controlling interest to The Friedkin Group and Ares Capital Management in its US$150 million equity investment in Inter Miami.
The firm also recently represented Amazon in its groundbreaking Thursday night distribution deal with the NFL, led by DLA Piper lawyers Ben Mulcahy and David Pahl.
White has more than 25 years of experience in the professional sports business, representing various parties in commercial, development, financing, corporate and M&A transactions, as well as contentious matters involving the world's major sports leagues, including Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, the National Hockey League, Major League Soccer, England's Premier League, Spain's La Liga, Italy's Lega Serie A, the Netherlands’ Eredivisie and the Australian Football League; the USOPC and IOC.
Whitaker’s extensive experience in the sports industry includes representing clients in various capacities in financing, corporate, development and commercial matters involving teams of the National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League, Major League Soccer, Italy’s Serie A, England’s Premier League, the Netherlands’ Eredivisie and the NCAA; and the USOPC.
Rubano has wide-ranging experience advising clients worldwide on matters related to sports, media and entertainment, including buyers, sellers and sports franchises in the National Football League, National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball, National Hockey League, Major League Soccer, United Soccer League, and various European football leagues.
