DLA Piper advises Heidelberger Druckmaschinen on acquisition of charging station technology from EnBW

DLA Piper has advised Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) on the acquisition of the charging station technology of Karlsruhe based energy company EnBW. With this acquisition, Heidelberg is further expanding its offering in the growing electromobility market. A corresponding purchase agreement has already been signed with EnBW AG.

Heidelberg already offers established charging solutions in the home sector. The new charging station is the first barrier-free charging station for public spaces, aiming at public utilities, municipalities, companies and customer car parks, primarily in Germany and Europe.

In Germany as well as in the EU, the network of nationwide charging points will be significantly expanded by 2030. The sales launch of the Heidelberg charging station is scheduled for mid-2022. In the future, the new products will also be used in operator models, for example in fleet management. Heidelberg is also continuing its international expansion and, following its market entries in Austria and Switzerland, will offer its charging solutions in France, Poland and Hungary in the future.

Having provided comprehensive legal advice to Heidelberg in the context of its transformation in 2020, DLA Piper – under the leadership of partners Dr Benjamin Parameswaran and Dr Henriette Norda – is now also advising Heidelberg on all legal aspects of aligning its portfolio with its core growth areas.

"This transaction is another milestone on our way to becoming one of the world's leading companies in the field of e-mobility," said Marcus A. Wassenberg, CFO of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG. "We would like to thank the DLA Piper team around Ben Parameswaran for their excellent legal advice, as always, also in the context of this strategic M&A transaction."

The DLA Piper team advising on this acquisition was again led by Hamburg-based partner Dr Benjamin Parameswaran and counsel Dr Philipp Clemens (both Corporate/M&A) and supported inter alia by counsel Dr Nico Brunotte (IPT).

On Heidelberg’s side, the transaction was led by the inhouse M&A team around Sascha Donat and Arthur Schneider with further legal support from Dr. Leslie Melters.
