Anthea is a real estate sector specialist with particular experience in advising on investments into corporate vehicles, joint venture structures and operating platforms. She also advises on domestic and cross-border M&A in the real estate sector and has a strong track record of advising clients on large UK and pan-European portfolio management arrangements.

Anthea has represented high-profile funds, institutional investors, operators and developers, particularly in their participation in joint ventures involving large portfolio investments and complex development projects from early acquisition and planning stages through to stabilisation and exit. Relevant asset classes include logistics, offices, life sciences, hospitality and leisure, retail, student accommodation and residential BTR.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advising Canary Wharf Group (as in-house counsel) on its joint venture with AXA-backed Kadans Science Partner for Europe's tallest purpose-built life sciences campus development at One North Quay in London.
  • Advising a Far East investor forming a 'fund of one' with a large social housing developer/operator for programmatic investment into a UK social housing platform.
  • Advising GIC on its acquisition from Blackstone of a 50% interest in the Broadgate Estate in the City of London and its joint venture and management arrangements with British Land.
  • Advising a Middle Eastern sovereign fund on its acquisition of a 90% interest in a pan-European portfolio of Hilton hotels in seven gateway cities across five European countries.
  • Advising a Scandinavian sovereign fund on its acquisition of a 50% interest in a pan-European logistics platform (195 industrial properties across Europe) including joint venture and portfolio management arrangements.
  • Advising a North American investor on its acquisition of a value-add office investment in a joint venture with Aviva Investors including equity funding arrangements for redevelopment of the asset.
  • Advising Hammerson on its acquisition of the 'Junction Trust' - a portfolio of UK retail parks - from Aviva Investors.
  • Advising Meridian Delta Limited (a joint venture between Lend Lease and Quintain) of its redevelopment of the vast mixed-use Greenwich Peninsula redevelopment project (residences, hotels, leisure, retail and office) including advising on holding structures, equity participation and debt financing arrangements.

    Prior Experience

    Anthea has worked on landmark real estate investment deals over the past 25 years in leading law firms in Australia and the UK, predominantly out of London. She has also worked closely with her clients as a senior in-house counsel, guiding them through their corporate real estate investments and JVs.
