Katrina maintains a corporate-commercial litigation practice with a focus on non-contentious and disputes work. Katrina has been recognized as a Rising Star by The Legal 500 Canada and in the 2020 edition of Lexpert Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 in Canada. 

Katrina’s non-contentious practice includes providing advice to insurers, reinsurers, brokerages, premium financers and organizations respecting various corporate, commercial and regulatory insurance and reinsurance issues, including regulatory advice and approvals, transactional advice, policy drafting and interpretation, coverage, warranties, and captive insurance companies. 

Katrina also advises automobile manufacturers, automotive equipment manufacturers, technology companies and start-ups, trucking companies and others on federal and provincial and local regulatory issues, risks, and strategies, as well as regulatory reporting and investigations, compliance, recalls, and enforcement. Katrina advises auto industry clients on leasing, financing, advertising, and consumer protection compliance. She has experience with conventional, electric and connected vehicles and accessories.

  • Advising foreign insurers and reinsurers respecting compliance with Canadian insurance regulatory laws.
  • Providing regulatory compliance advice in the context of M&A for insurers and brokerages.
  • Advising clients respecting the set-up of captive insurance companies under Alberta’s Captive Insurance Companies Act.
  • Advising national and international organizations respecting compliance with product warranties consumer and insurance regulation. 
  • Advising international automobile manufacturer new to the Canadian market with Canadian advertising, leasing, marketing and incentives.
  • Providing safety and compliance advice to screen and app manufacturers for in-vehicle. 
  • Defending organizations and boards of directors in corporate and securities disputes.

Pro Bono

Katrina is an extremely committed equity advocate, particularly in traditionally male dominated industries. Katrina has co-founded two non-profit organizations aimed at advancing equity – Women+Power and Lawyers for Equity, Access and Diversity (LEAD) Alberta. Women+Power is an organization that supports the advancement of women in the power industry. Women+Power offers events, including an annual networking event at IPPSA and an annual gala industry luncheon, as well as technical and industry sessions and events and peer mentoring. LEAD Alberta seeks to advance equity in the legal profession. Katrina heads up the Calgary branch of the Iris Barry Yake Robe Bank project.
