Angus is a finance senior associate in the London office of DLA Piper with experience advising lenders and borrowers on a broad range of investment and development financing transactions both in the UK and across Europe with a particular focus on real estate finance. 

Angus has acted for a range of clients including clearing banks, investment banks, debt funds, REITS and sponsors. He has worked on the financing, refinancing and restructuring of a variety of real estate assets, including residential, office, retail, logistics, hotels and student accommodation.

Prior to joining DLA Piper, he was a member of the banking and finance practices of major law firms in both Australia and New Zealand.

EXPERIENCE

  • Acting for Aareal Bank AG in providing Archer Hotel Capital with facilities of EUR567m to refinance seven premier hotels (in Paris, Amsterdam, Stockholm and Dublin) and support ESG-focused capital expenditure at several of the properties.
  • Acting as lead counsel for the lenders to a large alternate asset manager in connection with a EUR210m senior loan for the refinance of a commercial real estate asset in Amsterdam and a GBP198m senior loan for the refinance of 10 logistics real estate assets in the UK.
  • Acting for the lenders is relation to the refinance and cross collateralisation of USD163m existing facilities (into a new consolidated loan) with a large alternate asset manager in respect of a hotel and resort portfolio in the Maldives.
  • Acting for Aareal Bank AG in relation to a GBP240m senior loan to refinance the acquisition of a hotel portfolio comprising nine hotels in London, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
  • Acting for a US sponsor on multiple transactions for the refinance of the acquisition of various logistics properties in the UK, Netherlands and Germany.
  • Acting for a US investment bank in relation to a EUR116m financing of the acquisition of a music dome in the Netherlands as well as a GBP110m facility for the development of an events arena in the UK.
  • Acting for a US real estate investor in relation to its GBP142m participation in an additional facility to be made available under the sponsor’s existing financing arrangements for the purpose of the acquisition of material subsidiaries and its GBP200m participation in new term loan facilities to be made available to a subsidiary of a large UK supermarket chain.
