Asher Yan advises on a wide range of intellectual property matters, including prosecution, enforcement, and litigation, and also transactions and commercial deals. His practice spans trademarks, copyrights, patents, trade secrets, domain names, and so on.

He has a strong track record of success before Chinese courts and local administrative authorities. He also handles Customs protection, online takedown actions, and domain name disputes, and advises on commercial IP matters such as franchising, licensing, transfers, acquisitions, and audits.

Asher advises clients in a diverse range of industries, including hospitality, pharmaceuticals, fashion, entertainment, sports, high technology, artificial intelligence, software, and telecommunications.

Asher is a solicitor of England and Wales and has passed the PRC bars for both lawyers and patent agents. Prior to joining DLA Piper, he worked at another leading international law firm.

  • Advising a leading US hotel group on China trademark portfolio management, including filings, renewals, assignments, oppositions, invalidations, cancellations and administrative litigation.
  • Advising a US generative artificial intelligence company on establishing its China trademark portfolio, including new filings, oppositions, and negotiations with hijackers.
  • Advising a leading UK pharmaceutical company in civil litigation, obtaining well-known trademark recognition and CNY3m in damages (cap for statutory damages).
  • Advising a Hong Kong entertainment company in an unfair competition case, obtaining a preliminary injunction and a final judgment with a permanent injunction and significant damages.
  • Advising a well-known multinational conglomerate corporation in a multi-jurisdictional patent infringement matter, resulting in a favorable settlement with significant compensation.
  • Advising TCL Industries Holdings Co., Ltd. on its long term The Olympic Program (TOP) Partnership.
  • Advising a large Chinese state-owned company on broadcasting and cooperation agreements with one of the major professional football leagues in Europe.
  • Advising a leading global educational services provider on copyright and trademark licensing with one of China's largest conglomerates.
