DLA Piper advises Greencoat Renewables on acquisition of first wind farm in Sweden

DLA Piper has advised Greencoat Renewables PLC, through a multi-jurisdictional team from the UK, Sweden and Germany, on the acquisition of the 101.1 MW Ersträsk South Wind Farm in Sweden. This is Greencoat Renewables PLC’s first transaction in Sweden, which brings Greencoat Renewables PLC’s total installed generating capacity to 787MW and expands its operating presence in the Nordics.

The project consists of 26 Enercon E103 and 10 Enercon E126 turbines and was fully commissioned in January 2021. Enercon will continue to provide long term operations and maintenance services. Ersträsk South forms part of a large emerging cluster of renewable generation in the Markbygden area, with a potential installed capacity of 4GW.

DLA Piper advised on all aspects of the due diligence, acquisition and project agreements. The team was led by Global Co-Chair, Energy and Natural Resources Sector, Natasha Luther-Jones, alongside partners Björn Sjöberg (Sweden) and Rubayet Choudhury (London). They were assisted by counsel Robert Hofbauer, and senior associates Tim Hagberg and Jacques Camilleri.

Partner Natasha Luther-Jones, commented: “Having worked closely with Greencoat on a number of UK wind and solar transactions for many years and more recently in the US, we are delighted to have supported Greencoat Renewables PLC and the team in Ireland on its first transaction in Sweden.”
