About

Carly Meredith is a partner based in DLA Piper's Montreal office whose practice focuses on employment and labour law, privacy and data protection, and the increasingly complex issues that arise at the intersection of these disciplines, including artificial intelligence, employee monitoring, workplace investigations, cybersecurity incidents, employee data governance and other emerging workplace technologies.

Carly advises clients on all aspects of management-side employment and labour issues, including hiring, terminations, workforce restructurings, workplace policies, performance management and discipline, occupational health and safety, French language obligations, workplace investigations, executive employment matters, and employment standards compliance. Carly regularly acts as lead counsel in collective bargaining negotiations, grievance arbitrations, collective agreement administration and interpretation, and other strategic labour relations matters. In addition to her practice, Carly currently teaches the Employment and Labour Law course at Concordia University.

Carly has been instrumental in establishing and growing DLA Piper's privacy and data protection practice in Québec. In addition to her workplace privacy experience, Carly advises organizations on all aspects of privacy law compliance, including data protection policies, data processing agreements, cross-border data transfers, data subject rights requests, regulatory investigations, and the implementation of biometric, monitoring and tracking technologies. She is also experienced with privacy enforcement matters and has appeared several times before the Commission d’accès à l’information, as well as acting as advisory counsel in the context of privacy-related class action litigation.

Known for her practical, business-oriented and forward-thinking approach, Carly is frequently retained as lead privacy, employment and labour counsel on sophisticated domestic and cross-border transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations and other strategic business initiatives. She works closely with clients throughout the transaction lifecycle, advising on employment, labour and privacy risks from the due diligence stage through post-closing integration, workforce transition and operational implementation.

Carly joined DLA Piper in 2016 after earning both civil and common law degrees from McGill University. Deeply engaged in her community, Carly serves as Vice-President of the Board of a Montreal-based halfway house organization supporting the reintegration of individuals in conflict with the law. She is also active in Montreal's Irish community and contributes to her family's longstanding Christmas Basket initiative, which supports adult learners pursuing high school and vocational education.
