Laura Scampion is the Country Managing Partner of DLA Piper in New Zealand and leads the firm’s New Zealand Employment practice. She is also a member of the DLA Piper New Zealand Board.
With more than 20 years’ experience in New Zealand and the UK, Laura advises major domestic and international organisations on complex employment, health and safety and workforce matters. She works closely with senior executives, general counsel, boards and people leaders on matters where legal, commercial and reputational considerations intersect.
Laura has particular experience in significant workforce restructures, sensitive investigations and disciplinary matters, industrial relations, restraints of trade, senior executive issues and cross-border workforce arrangements. Clients value her ability to clarify risk, develop a practical plan and understand the broader stakeholder considerations involved in complex employment matters.
Dual qualified in New Zealand and England and Wales, Laura spent almost a decade practising in the UK, where she advised FTSE 100 and multinational organisations and worked alongside employment, pensions, immigration, HR and tax advisers. Her international experience underpins her work for global organisations operating in New Zealand and New Zealand businesses dealing with cross-border workforce issues.
As Country Managing Partner, Laura brings a business leadership perspective to her client work, including first-hand experience of organisational change, governance, talent, culture and innovation. She has also played a significant role in DLA Piper’s work to broaden access to the legal profession, including leading the firm’s Head Start social mobility programme in New Zealand, and has supported initiatives to strengthen pro bono collaboration across the New Zealand legal sector.
