DLA Piper appoints renewables expert as partner

DLA Piper has appointed leading renewables lawyer, Luke Westmore, as a projects and infrastructure partner to be based in Melbourne.

Luke joins us from PwC Legal and prior to that K&L Gates. Luke is a front-end project and infrastructure partner who for the last 15 years has had an exclusive focus on large scale renewable energy projects in Australia and internationally. His clients are mix of international and Australian companies.

“Luke brings critical experience in energy and renewables, where we see significant opportunity ahead to support both global and Australian companies as they works towards net zero. The investment required by government and companies in renewable energy infrastructure over the next decade and beyond is immense. Luke is a true expert and trusted adviser to clients in this sector,” said Amber Matthews, Australia Managing Partner, DLA Piper.

“Luke’s deep sector experience in renewable energy strongly aligns with our focus on advising clients in the energy transition and across all aspects of the Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) spectrum, which will only grow in importance,” she added.

Commenting on his appointment, Luke Westmore said he’s delighted to join the firm:

“The firm offered a clear strategy on their path forward in the Australian market, which focused on their sector strengths and commitment to ESG, which aligned with my outlook and values,” Luke said.

Luke’s appointment follows the recent appointment of Tony Rutherford, who specialises in social infrastructure, major projects and renewable energy project. Having worked at the firm earlier in their careers, both Luke and Tony have returned to DLA Piper, which is testament to our culture.

DLA Piper has advised on a range of matters across the energy and infrastructure sectors in support of Australia's push towards net zero. The firm has been ranked #1 Global Renewable Energy Legal Adviser by Inspiratia and #1 law firm in ESG performance by Impactvise.
