About

Katalin advises leading domestic and international financial institutions, sponsors, debt funds, insurers and other alternative investors on a broad range of financing transactions.

Katalin focuses primarily on property and construction finance, especially in a cross-border context, and including a variety of asset classes and industry sectors. Her experience also covers complex restructuring scenarios, structured finance, syndicated and mezzanine lending as well as acquisition and general corporate finance. Katalin regularly acts both for financiers and corporates in relation to their financing needs.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advising a leading multinational steel producer in connection with their proposed acquisition of an interest in the operator of one of the largest steelmaking coal reserves in Australia with an enterprise value of over USD1bn.
  • Advising various private equity investors (including Accel-KKR, Kaltroco Limited and Five V Capital) on the financing arrangements for their domestic and cross-border acquisitions in the Australian market across a variety of sectors, including Energy and Natural Resources, Industrials (manufacturing, automotive, etc.), Infrastructure, Technology, Food and Retail.
  • Advising a syndicate of three major Australian banks in relation to the circa AUD400m financing of the completion of the large scale mixed use Lendlease development ‘Melbourne Quarter’.*
  • Advising Blackrock in relation to the debt funding arrangements for various of its real estate funds, including the circa USD430m financing of the acquisition of high-quality industrial and last mile logistics assets around Australian capital cities and the circa USD300m financing of childcare real estate assets in metro and regional Australia. *
  • Advising a German global asset management company on the debt financing aspects of various of its investments across Australia, including the acquisition of a prestigious mixed-use complex in East Melbourne and the circa USD260m development of a commercial tower in Melbourne. *
  • Advising a leading global beverage company on the financing of the development of greenfield automated 'mega' high-bay warehouses across Australia via an asset lease facility provided by a major offshore bank.
  • Advising a state owned transport and roads lead agency on the financing of the procurement of zero emission buses for several regions in metropolitan Sydney via ring-fenced ‘AssetCo’ financing structures for the operator.*
  • Advising a leading provider of specialist credit & tailor made financial products in the Australian market on various strategic credit arrangements, including funding for the receivers appointed to an ASX listed operator of a mining project in Western Australia.*

Prior Experience

Katalin has extensive experience in the legal field, having worked with several prestigious magic circle and global law firms. She began her career as a freelance lawyer and researcher at the University of Passau from 2003 to 2010. From 2011 to 2014, she worked as an Associate at two magic circle law firms in Frankfurt, specializing in Real Estate Finance. In 2014, Katalin joined DLA Piper UK LLP in Frankfurt as a Senior Associate and was promoted to Counsel in 2017. She then moved to DLA Piper Australia in 2019, working as a Senior Foreign Legal Associate in Sydney from 2019 to 2021. Following this, she took a brief break from us at another law firm before returning in 2025 as Special Counsel.
