Ashley Barton litigates complex commercial matters in state and federal courts. She focuses her practice on the defense of consumer class actions, and also has experience litigating unfair competition and business tort claims, commercial contract disputes, trademark and trade secret matters, antitrust cases, and employment law claims. Ashley has represented a diverse group of clients, from individual founders to government entities to leading companies in various industries, including hospitality and entertainment, financial services, software and technology, manufacturing, healthcare, retail, commercial property development, transportation, and higher education.

  • Representing global technology manufacturer against consumer class action alleging violations of California consumer protection law, false advertising, and fraud
  • Representing a multinational food and beverage company in consumer class action against claims of unfair competition and false advertising
  • Obtained summary judgement on all claims in favor of gun manufacturer client in mass tort action alleging deceptive advertising, negligence, public nuisance, and violations of federal and state gun statutes
  • Obtained a stay against litigation of a putative wage and hour class action pending arbitration for a Fortune 100 multi-channel retail client
  • Obtained favorable settlement for national commercial insurance brokerage client from competitor and former employees for claims of breach of non-solicitation agreements and duties of loyalty, trade secret misappropriation, tortious interference, and unfair competition, after obtaining summary judgment in favor of client on most claims
  • Obtained voluntary dismissal with prejudice for multinational automotive manufacturer after filing motion for summary judgment and for sanctions in commercial contract litigation
  • Represented commercial property developer and board members of technology development against claims for breach of contract and fiduciary duties, business torts, and antitrust violations arising from denial of parcel owner’s development application
  • Represented seller of commercial cleaning services company in post-acquisition indemnification and purchase price litigation
  • Represented theme park in lease dispute with lessor city over rent payments after COVID closure orders
