About

Dan Caprio is an experienced international practitioner in consumer protection, privacy, cybersecurity, and data risk.

Before joining DLA Piper, Dan co-founded a firm where he advised CEOs and Corporate Boards on regulatory and policy risk and worked on several transatlantic initiatives with the European Commission including the US-EU Trade and Technology Council, addressing a wide range of digital economy matters in both Washington, DC and Brussels.

Dan's distinguished service in government as a senior executive at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Department of Commerce has established him as a transatlantic leader in the private sector for over 25 years. His work to protect privacy and promote innovation at the Department of Commerce and FTC was foundational to the establishment of the initial US-EU Safe Harbor Agreement and the inaugural White House Cybersecurity strategy. Following his tenure in government, Dan led a market-oriented think tank in DC that focused on preserving corporate innovation within data privacy and cybersecurity frameworks.

Dan is a practitioner in the James Madison University (JMU) European Policy Studies Master's Program in Florence, Italy.
