Sophie Watson is an intellectual property and technology lawyer with experience in software development as well as working in house at one of New Zealand’s leading technology companies.

Sophie is admitted to the high court of New Zealand. She has experience working on a range of matters including advising multinational companies in the technology and consumer sectors on strategy and compliance, reviewing commercial contracts and drafting due diligence reports for intellectual property and commercial issues. Sophie has also been involved in renewing and registering trade marks.

She has a strong interest in emerging technologies in particular blockchain technologies and artificial intelligence.

  • Advised one of the worlds largest technology company on regulatory aspects of deploying their new emerging technology’s in New Zealand.
  • Advised a large New Zealand financial services company on its procurement of a fund management software. This included being involved in extensive contractual negotiations.
  • Advising Foodstuffs North Island, New Zealand’s largest grocery distributor, on its partnership with Dunnhumby, a global data science company.
  • Advised a large motor vehicle company on privacy implications around deploying dash cams.
