Be Aware UK: Coronavirus - New self-isolation rules may lead to fines for employers

Keeping on top of the latest developments in the fight against coronavirus is an ongoing task – and now employers in England need to be aware that new self-isolation rules are now in force which can lead to significant fines for those who do not comply.

The new rules are aimed at limiting the spread of the transmission of the virus and impose a legal duty on individuals to self-isolate at home (and to remain at home without leaving, except in narrowly defined circumstances) when notified by the NHS Test & Trace service that they have tested positive for coronavirus, or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive. Employers must not knowingly allow workers to attend a place of work when they are legally required to self-isolate. A breach of the new rules could lead to a fine of GBP1,000, rising to GBP10,000 for repeat or serious offences.
