DLA Piper advises Abry Partners in acquisition of HealthEZ

DLA Piper represented private equity investment firm Abry Partners in its acquisition of a majority stake in HealthEZ, an independent third-party administrator (TPA) of self-funded medical plans.

Based in Minneapolis, HealthEZ aims to simplify the process of accessing and financing healthcare for employers, their employees and the physicians and other providers who treat them, with a particular focus on the small- and mid-sized business (SMB) market.

“We were pleased to again partner with Abry Partners, drawing on our wide-ranging experience advising on healthcare private equity transactions to facilitate this acquisition, which expands our client’s growing portfolio of healthcare services investments,” said Joe Alexander, global co-chair of DLA Piper’s Corporate and Private Equity practices, who led the firm’s deal team.

In addition to Alexander (Miami), the DLA Piper team representing Abry Partners included partners Dan Rollman (Atlanta), Drew Young (New York), Kristi Kung (Northern Virginia), Karen Nelson (Austin), Julia Kovacs (Washington, DC) and William Bartow (Philadelphia).

DLA Piper’s Private Equity practice includes more than 100 US lawyers who provide strategic counsel to private equity funds and the industry-leading companies they invest in. In 2019, Pitchbook recognized DLA Piper as the second most active private equity law firm globally, further solidifying the strength of the firm’s team and its depth of experience executing private equity transactions.

The firm's global Healthcare sector consists of a multidisciplinary legal team with niche experience in health-related business and legal issues. The team regularly works with corporations and financial institutions, private investors, private equity groups, venture capital funds, institutional investors and portfolio companies in all types of healthcare transactions.
