DLA Piper receives 2020 Allegiance Award from Kids in Need of Defense

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that the firm has received a 2020 Allegiance Award from Kids in Need of Defense (KIND).

KIND honored the firm for its “outstanding pro bono assistance to unaccompanied children” and for going “above and beyond” to ensure that children seeking safety in the US have an attorney by their side during their immigration proceedings. Over the past year, DLA Piper provided more than 2,400 hours in pro bono assistance to KIND, partnering with the organization on more than 60 cases in six cities and in Europe.

“We are proud to advocate for the rights of children seeking a safe home in the US after fleeing violence and danger in their home countries,” said Lisa Dewey, pro bono partner and director of New Perimeter, DLA Piper's nonprofit affiliate that provides long-term pro bono legal assistance in under-served regions around the world. “DLA Piper is committed to continuing to support KIND in its crucial mission of protecting unaccompanied refugee children, and we are honored to have been able to make a difference through our pro bono representation.”
