DLA Piper was platinum sponsor of 2021 Virtual Fox Moot

DLA Piper Canada is proud to have once more participated ‎as a platinum sponsor and event co-‎ordinator ‎of the Harold G. ‎Fox Moot; which for the first time since it’s inception, was hosted virtually. ‎

On February 19 and 20, participants from 12 schools from across Canada ‎participated in the virtual ‎moot. We congratulate all ‎participants on their hard work and dedication, and for the exceptional display ‎of oral ‎advocacy they exhibited over the two-day event.

Panels for the 2021 Fox Moot consisted of lawyers from 20 different firms and judicial officials from the ‎Federal Courts, the Ontario Courts and the Supreme Court of Canada. The panel for the Fox Moot Finals ‎comprised of Justice Côté of the Supreme Court Canada, Justice Gauthier of the Federal Court of ‎Appeal, Justice Locke of the Federal Court of Appeal, Justice Brown of the Ontario Court of Appeal and ‎Justice Manson of the Federal Court. We thank all panelists for their help with the 2021 Fox Moot.‎

The Fox Moot competition promotes the study of Canadian intellectual ‎property law and offers law ‎students the opportunity to interact ‎with jurists from Canada’s highest courts.‎

Winners of the 2021 Fox Moot include:‎

  • The Harold G. Fox Moot Cup: Samantha Kokonis & Flint Patterson, University of Toronto.
  • The DLA Piper (Canada) LLP Award for mooting excellence (the best mooter in a non-‎graduating year) ‎and invitation to enter the 2022 Oxford moot: Hannah Cinel, University of Toronto. Hannah and a ‎teammate will be invited to represent their school at the 2022 Oxford International IP Moot in England. ‎
  • The Donald F. Sim Award for the best oral advocate: Alice Wang, University of McGill.
  • The Gordon F. Henderson Award for best appellant facta: Alice Wang & Michelle Pucci, McGill University. ‎
  • The Gordon F. Henderson Award for best respondent facta: Sharan Johal & Anton Rizor, Queen’s ‎University. ‎
