DLA Piper advises Greencoat Capital in acquisition of majority stake in 405-megawatt wind portfolio

DLA Piper represented Greencoat Capital in the acquisition of a 55 percent cash equity stake in two US wind farms from EDP Renewables. The portfolio includes the Bright Stalk and Harvest Ridge wind farms, both located in Illinois, which have a combined capacity of 405 megawatts.

“Our energy M&A team, which often works with clients looking to invest in renewables, was very pleased to assist Greencoat with their second investment in the US,” said Vanessa Richelle Wilson, the DLA Piper partner who led the firm’s deal team.

In addition to Wilson (Washington, DC), the DLA Piper team advising Greencoat Capital included partners Drew Young (New York), John Huh (Philadelphia), Andrew Young and Danish Hamid (both of Washington, DC); of counsel Rachel Ramos (Austin) and Jeffrey Kuhn (Albany); and associates Junqi Zhang (Washington, DC) and Eleni Christou (Chicago).

DLA Piper’s Projects, Energy and Infrastructure team includes more than 200 lawyers within the firm’s global network. The team in the US advises industry participants on the purchase, sale, development and financing of energy infrastructure projects, including renewable generation projects, energy storage projects, transmission systems and other energy projects. In 2020, Inspiratia named DLA Piper’s energy team a top renewable energy legal advisor, ranking the team #1 in North America by deal count and #2 globally by deal count.
