Andrew Serwin named a 2022 Top Cyber Lawyer by the Daily Journal
DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Andrew Serwin, US chair and global co-chair of the firm’s Cybersecurity and Data Protection, Privacy and Security practices, has been named to the Daily Journal’s 2022 Top Cyber Lawyers list recognizing top-tier cybersecurity lawyers practicing in California.
The publication noted that Serwin played a key role in the Schrems II decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), as his testimony to the Irish Data Protection Commissioner as an expert witness on US cybersecurity and privacy law served as the basis of the decision that invalidated the EU-EU Privacy Shield.
In his practice, Serwin advises Fortune 500 and emerging companies on matters relating to privacy, security, crisis management and national security, with an emphasis on international compliance, cybersecurity, national security issues, health privacy, behavioral advertising, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and wiretap issues, electronic marketing concerns, social media, and compliance with Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requirements.
He also handles some of the highest-profile data security incidents and privacy enforcement and litigation matters in the world. His representations involve every aspect of breach preparedness and response, from drafting incident response plans and conducting tabletop exercises, to advising on consumer and state notices, responding to regulators and defending companies in litigation relating to the incident. Serwin has served as lead counsel in a number of FTC matters, matters before the Office for Civil Rights and state consumer protection offices, and privacy litigation based on the alleged misuse of personal information, including class actions and enforcement matters brought by state attorneys general.
