Deloitte Legal partner Marc Lager returns to DLA Piper

DLA Piper is expanding its antitrust and compliance practice by appointing Marc Lager as a partner in its Vienna office as of 1 December, 2022.

Marc was an associate in Country Managing Partner Claudine Vartian’s antitrust team in Vienna from 2006 to 2009. He moved to Baker & McKenzie as a senior associate, where he was promoted to partner and played an instrumental role in its antitrust team for over ten years. He has been involved in numerous global initiatives, building up the office's foreign trade practice as Head of Trade & Commercial. Most recently, he joined Deloitte Legal in early 2020 as a partner responsible for antitrust/compliance and foreign trade law in Austria.

Marc has extensive experience advising on antitrust proceedings, abuse of market power issues, antitrust distribution law and merger control proceedings in Austria and the EU. He has regularly led complex cross-border investigations and advised clients on general foreign trade law, EU export control, EU sanctions and the implementation and operation of compliance management systems. He is the author and co-editor of numerous publications on antitrust law, foreign trade law and distribution law, and regularly lectures on these topics in Germany and internationally.

Claudine Vartian, Country Managing Partner of DLA Piper in Austria, comments: “We are very pleased to have Marc Lager back with us, now as a partner bolstering our already strong Antitrust and Compliance team. We already know that he will be an excellent cultural fit for the firm and look forward to his contribution to the future success of the team and the wider firm." Marc’s appointment is part of a wider program of expansion in Vienna, following the appointed of criminal law and compliance expert Georg Krakow last summer.

Marc Lager, adds: "I’m excited to be rejoining the Antitrust and Compliance team at DLA Piper. Clients are faced with increasingly complex legal challenges, and in-house teams today generally have a high level of expertise. In order to add real value to these teams, a highly experienced and well-coordinated team is required. As a fully integrated law firm, DLA Piper is able to provide the full breadth and depth of legal advice and bring that added value to clients."
