DLA Piper Australia welcomes three new partners in latest promotion round

DLA Piper is proud to announce three new partners have been promoted to the Australian partnership. The promotions are effective from 1 May 2022.

The new partners include Jessie Buchan, Intellectual Property and Technology (Sydney); Dylan Burke, Corporate (Melbourne); and Elliott Cheung, Corporate (Sydney). Their collective experience in areas such as intellectual property, venture capital investments, equity capital raising, and domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions will be greatly valued by the partnership.

“We are delighted to welcome Jessie, Dylan and Elliott to the partnership. They have all shown exceptional ability and demonstrate the values which are important to our firm,” said Amber Matthews, Australian Managing Partner, DLA Piper.

The appointments were part of a global round of promotions, which included 74 lawyers being promoted to its partnership. Promotions have been made across all of the firm's practice areas, spanning 38 offices in 21 countries.

Globally, Corporate saw the largest intake of new partners with 20 promotions, followed by Litigation and Regulatory with 19 promotions and ten in Finance, Projects and Restructuring. Other practice groups included Employment, both with eight promotions, Intellectual Property and Technology with seven, six in Real Estate and four in Tax.

Of the 74 promotions, 36 were women (49%) clearly demonstrating firm’s commitment to increasing representation across the partnership.

“The firm is committed to promoting more women to the partnership and achieving greater levels of diversity into the future,” Amber added.

Our three latest promotions in Australia follow the appointment of Sallie Bowtell as a Melbourne-based partner in our real estate practice in January 2022.
